What if we told you there was a way to use the power of your own body to heal from the inside out, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, help to improve the appearance of scars from prior procedures, injuries or acne, increase collagen production for a more youthful appearance and improve skin texture? We are excited to now offer microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma) facials, otherwise known as “The Vampire Facial,” at SFICC.
What is it?
PRP is a blood product obtained from your own body that is rich in growth factors and healing properties. Microneedling creates microtrauma through the use of small needles that are inserted into the skin utilizing a powered device to the depth most effective for your own PRP to absorb and start signaling your body to heal. Your PRP is then placed over your skin in conjunction with utilizing the microneedler and any remaining plasma can be injected subcutaneously into trouble areas such as under the eyes, the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, deep forehead wrinkles, scars and even the lips.
Is it painful?
Prior to the procedure, your face will be anesthetized using a nerve block and a small needle. This will create complete anesthesia over your entire face during and for several hours after the procedure. You should not have any pain during the procedure and should only experience mild discomfort, similar to a sunburn, for the days following the procedure.
What if I have botox or fillers?
Microneedling with PRP can be used as an adjunctive treatment along with any neuromodulators or fillers. It is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks after having any neuromodulators injected prior to microneedling, and 1 week after any fillers. Neuromodulators can even be used on the same day as microneedling as long as it is done after the facial.
What are the side effects?
Most patients experience mild swelling, and rarely, minimal bruising and scabbing. The skin will feel tight and dry for several days and some experience an itching sensation as the PRP is taking effect. The risks of adverse bleeding events, infection and allergic reaction are extremely rare, especially because the procedure involves injecting your own body back into you.
How do I know if I am a candidate?
You can call to schedule a consultation with one of our clinicians and be sure to read the contraindications, pre and post-procedure instructions before planning on scheduling your microneedling with PRP facial.
