Same Day Sedation Evaluation for MRI at SFICC.
For many patients, the thought of having to undergo an MRI, which involves laying on a flat table and being placed into a small tube, is anxiety-inducing, to say the least. Open MRI machines are not always readily available and sometimes have long wait lists to obtain an appointment. We at SFICC understand that sometimes, your doctor needs an MRI image to appropriately diagnose you. We are here to help expedite that process while ensuring you will be able to comfortably undergo an MRI.
What is it?
We are now offering same-day appointments for an evaluation with one of our clinicians to obtain sedative medication to be taken prior to your MRI. This will ensure you are relaxed and able to remain still for the duration of your test.
What does my appointment include?
One of our board-certified clinicians will take a detailed medical history and perform a physical exam. If you are a candidate, you will be provided the medication at your visit to be taken 30 minutes prior to your MRI appointment.
Will I need a driver the day of my MRI?
Yes! In order to take this medication prior to your MRI, you will need to ensure you have someone to drive you to your MRI and back home safely.
What if I am not local to the area?
Not to worry! We offer the same day sedation service through telemedicine as well, and will be happy to send the prescription for the medication to your local pharmacy.
How long will the sedation last?
For most patients, the sedative and relaxing effects of the medication should be diminished if not completely gone within 6-8 hours after taking it. You should plan to relax the remainder of the day after your MRI and not plan to drive or operate any heavy equipment/machinery.
